Television taping for The Peggy Denny Show
This Monday the 5th I will be in South Carolina taping The Peggy Denny Show that is produced at the studios of WGGS. It will only be shown in North & South Carolina but The Robinson Agency, who got me the interview, requested that I put it on u-Tube. I seem to be fretting more about what to wear that being on the show!!! I consider this a great opportunity to talk about "Our Southern Breeze" and the amazing journey I am on!

Daughters of the King at Sugar Hill UMC
On Thursday I was honored to be one of the speakers at my church. Many of the 80 women had already read my book and several had heard me speak at other venues. The feedback was wonderful and I continue to be blessed that God has given me a platform to speak about God's gift of forgiveness, restoration, and second chances. I appreciate the people who are supporting me on this exciting journey I am on.

Book club at Dunwoody Methodist Church
Jane Cox invited me to speak last night at the Dunwoody Methodist Church book club. What a blessing to be made to feel so welcomed. I was honored to share my heart about "Our Southern Breeze" and how God took a broken woman like me and not only forgave and restored me but gave me a second chance on life. The questions asked were wonderful and helped the group to understand my journey even better. I left with a smile on my face thanking God for such a wonderful evening. Thank you Jane for suggesting my book!

My dear friend who recently became blind from a brain tumor
www.icansee.us/
This is more information about what we discussed regarding the
opportunity for stem cell treatments in China. I am excited about the
possibility of seeing again, especially after a rough transition to having no
vision. I met Tim Smith about four months ago. He and I both attend 12Stone
church, but we were at different campuses, so our paths had not crossed. After
I lost my vision, a mutual friend introduced us, and our
friendship developed and I was inspired by him. Tim went to an eye
doctor in Alabama who gave him the information regarding this company in China
who was a leader in stem cell treatments and development. I made inquiries
directly to the company and have gotten temporary approval
to receive a fifteen day treatment that will cost approximately $18,500.
I want Lovey to go with me, so we are raising additional money for airfare. So,
we are looking at about $25,000 per
couple. Their treatment success rate is close to 75%
as long as my case falls under their protocol. So far, I have a green light. We
are extremely excited that the possibility of seeing again and giving hope to
our families that we can lead a more normal life. Thank you for your love and
support and we will keep you updated on the progress. Blessings, -Wesley Vaughn

Fun Times in Texas!
My husband, John Pisiona and I left for Texas on September 4th.
My first event was at a book signing in Ft. Worth at the University Park
Village Barnes & Noble store on the 5th. So many dear friends I made while
Deborah was dying came to support me. I was honored to have my brother-in-law
Ron Hall with me. I had an opportunity to do my first reading from my book!
The next afternoon one of my dear friends from Snyder, TX where we grew up had a beautiful get together so I could meet many of her friends.
On the 7th I had my next book signing in Dallas at
the Barnes & Noble on W Northwest Freeway. Again Ron and family were there
to support me.
Bob and Anne Snelling had a book signing on the 8th
at their beautiful home in Frisco. My husband and I were made to feel so
special.
Andrea Taylor, who co-authored and published “Our Southern
Breeze” and her husband Jerry, had an open house for John and me on the 9th. I
was able to meet her precious family and several friends that I missed seeing
at my book launch in Dallas when I had emergency surgery! She is a big Starbucks “girl” and had each
person autograph a coffee mug for a keepsake!
The evening of the 9th several dear friends hosted a dinner for John and me at a wonderful Mexican food restaurant. Not all of Deborah’s close friends could make it but seeing so many people she loved was truly a blessing. It thrills me to hear that our voices are identical. What as honor to have been chosen by God to be her twin sister.
On the 10th I was off to Austin and John left for
Atlanta.
Sue and Ken Langston opened their home for me to stay until
the 15th. My final book signing was at the Arboretum Barnes & Noble
store. Many of my dear friends from years ago were there to celebrate with me. It
was a wonderful evening.
The remainder of the books in each store were autographed
and displayed to be sold. Those two
weeks were filled with memories I will never forget.

Writing "Our Southern Breeze"...An Amazing Journey of Faith
Writing my story, Our
Southern Breeze, was an adventure from day one. After I was asked to do it
because so many people want to know more about my twin sister, Debra Hall, I
gathered up the journals, notes, photos, and memorabilia that I had saved and I
began. I spent a year reworking what I had and ended up creating a 227-page
journal. I next put together a 25-page (single-spaced) timeline of my life, and
emailed it off to a woman I had never met face-to-face. It should have been a
scary moment for me . . . but it wasn’t.
Andrea Taylor, who lives in Frisco, Texas, and I, who live in Atlanta, Georgia, had been talking and emailing for several weeks, and I just knew in my heart that she was the one who could actually get this done for me. Although a published author and the owner of a custom publishing company, Andrea had never ghostwritten for anyone. She was a little nervous about committing to do it because of that, and I was a little nervous about committing to pay her for doing it because I didn’t actually have the money to do it. So we both took steps of faith and began a most fascinating journey together to bring my story to readers everywhere.
Andrea’s task was to take my journal, which was a rich source of material for the project, the timeline, my brother-in-law’s original manuscript called Denver Bound, and his New York Times bestseller called Same Kind of Different As Me (Ron Hall with Lynn Vincent, 2006), and craft a story that would capture the hearts of the readers as they experienced my life right along with me.
We agreed to write my story as creative non-fiction, using all the elements of novel writing such as setting, characters, dialogue, and story line. She set different tones depending on what was happening in my life, and she tried to capture my voice in both dialogue with other characters and in my thought life.

After she wrote each new chapter and emailed it off to me,
we got on the phone and talked through the details, discussing additional
memories I had. Then she would go back to that chapter, sit down at her
computer, and pour out my heart
through her words. She placed herself
in my shoes as best she could and felt my pain enough to get it out onto the
paper, crying and laughing and praying her way through the manuscript.
Andrea reminded me many times throughout this year-long
process that our goal was never perfection. Our goal was excellence for His
glory. When we found errors, we corrected them. She took artistic license and
purposefully broke some of the rules of writing in order to bring authenticity
to my story and better connect with the reader’s hearts.
If Our Southern Breeze
brings hope and healing to God’s people, either through the written word or
through my speaking opportunities, then Andrea and I have done a Good thing. We both pray that it is so.

Big News with Barnes and Noble!
This
has got to be a GOD thing!
Several weeks ago when we had sold 1,040 books and not in any book stores, I decided to be brave and see if Barnes & Noble would talk with me. I knew they had our eBook and paperback on the website for a couple of days. When I started calling different stores in DFW, Atlanta, and Austin all of the managers said they couldn’t order it. For you who know me, that wasn’t the answer I wanted.
Andrea Taylor, who wrote with me and set up our distributor, emailed me the name of the VP of Sales/Buyer in Manhattan I should call as she thought it could at least be sold on the website. NO ONE ever answers the phone but Jane Love did!! I introduced myself and told her about OSB and my connection to SKODAM and Ron. As we were speaking she said she was sending an email to the man who decides and buys all of the books for biographies and if I didn’t hear from him I was to call.
Edward called this morning and we had an amazing conversation on the phone. Before we finished talking, you would have thought I was in line with the “big boys”! I told him I would like to have my book in DFW, Austin, and Atlanta. I promised him that I would let my energies be directed to B & N and knew that I was riding in on Ron’s coattails!!!!! He just laughed but know he thinks the same thing.
After talking with Edward I now have my first B & N book signing scheduled for September 5th between 6p and 8p in the Ft. Worth B & N at University Park Village! I asked the young man in Ft. Worth how many books I would have to sell to get Edward notice me. He said anything between 45 to 50! Please join me in asking God for that number! Sweet Regan asked for 5 books so she can start marketing to her church and friends. Other friends of Deborah’s are also helping me!
If you know anyone even near DFW, by Monday I will have the poster ready and can send a pdf version of it if you feel it might help spread the news. I’m also going to call the FT Star Telegram to see if they will do an article. I am overwhelmed at God’s grace and abilities to have this happen to a West Texas girl named Daffny Snort, a snior from Sider who stopped learning in the 7th grade!!!!!!
Thank you to my dear friends who never stopped believing in me!

A Beautiful Sentiment
1000
sold, more will read, the story of three, closer are two, going through pain,
laughter and tears.
Through the years, the passing of time has drawn them together and now there is one.
Stronger she grows, remembering them both, sisters they are and always will be.

1000 sold!
On Sunday I spoke at the Duluth First United Methodist Church.
They combine classes during the summer and call the group the “All Together”
Sunday school class. The turnout was
great! Sarah Gearinger bought our 1000th book. I continue to feel honored and blessed that
God would give me the courage to take off my mask of shame and tell my story of
forgiveness, restoration, and second chances.
If you haven’t read the book, I hope you will.

If you’ve read the book and liked it, please direct your friends to any

decisions are made from the corporate store based on sales, so the more orders
they have the sooner they will carry my book in their stores.

Last Days in Snyder
Our trip to Snyder, Texas was wonderful. We were welcomed with open arms and certainly
experienced good ole Southern hospitality!
One thing that happened that we didn’t expect was having John, my sweet
husband of 8 ½ years, talk to “Fellowship Christian Athletes” at Snyder High
and briefly at a crisis center for abused women. The principal has already
asked if we would come back when school starts next year and have us speak to
girls and boys as high school and middle school!
I had never heard him speak and now see that God has a ministry for both of us! To be referred to as his “Princess” and “Beloved” is something I never expected to hear from a husband. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for us.
John was married and divorced for 33 years before we
married. He had a Damascus Road
experience when he was saved and spent those years as a bachelor studying God’s
Word about a man’s relationship in dating and marriage.
I had never heard him speak and now see that God has a ministry for both of us! To be referred to as his “Princess” and “Beloved” is something I never expected to hear from a husband. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for us.
The last day we were in Snyder we had a book signing and
reception at an adorable shop call Manhattan Coffee House on the Square. What a glorious week!!!

Our first official REVIEW!
Out of the Dark Woods
A Review of Our Southern Breeze by Daphene Jones
I finished the last page of Our Southern Breeze by Daphene Jones. I sat the book on my lap and let myself feel the gamut of emotions laid like paint on the pages. I let my mind trace the shape of her story, the curves and lines of childhood abuse, family dysfunction, bouts of depression, the repeating circles of lies, the zigzagging lines of one temporary prop after another to compensate for ingrained feelings of insecurity; or not fitting in; or not being smart enough or “good” enough. Her self-comparison to others played messages in her mind with a repeated theme: she never measured up. Her thinking too often bumped up against her past, her failures and inner turmoil. “I was frozen in my tracts—unable to think at all,” she said. “It took me days to grasp the fact that I had lost everything . . . again. Everything.” There were moments of painful reflection and promises to do better but there was no change. Daphene’s destructive habits and mindless choices of habit led her to despair and the suffocating feeling of being lost, without hope, in a dark forest. Dante expressed it best when he said, “In the middle of my road of life, I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost.”
Daphene was traveling on a painful, inevitable road to rock bottom. That was until she was asked by her estranged twin sister, Deborah Hall, to attend a Christian Conference in Anaheim, California. Deborah Hall was the subject of the New York Times bestseller, Same Kind of Different as Me. Unlike Daphene, Deborah led a stable, ordered, faith centered life with an outreach to the homeless and dispossessed in Fort Worth, Texas. The Anaheim meeting was a turning point for Daphene Jones. She experienced the power and presence of a personal God in ways that were specific and overwhelming. She was carried to a place of great relief and release. A weight of, what seemed like, ancient heaviness lifted as she opened her heart to the love and forgiveness of God. She writes, “It was as if a hundred keys were fitting into a hundred locks deep inside of me.” Daphene was filled with what Dante calls, “a love that moves the sun and other stars.” At Anaheim, Love began drawing a new shape that would define Daphene’s life.
The rest of the book, the heart of the book is the story of redemption; the story of a life changed by the grace, mercy and forgiveness of God. It is the story of a life reshaped by God’s Word. It is the story of a woman who became a successful businesswoman. It is a book full of hope and encouragement and the promise of light for those who have experienced the dark woods or know someone who has. It is the story of second chances. I was blessed and my faith was affirmed as I read Our Southern Breeze. I highly recommend it.

Northside United Methodist Church- April 17th
I wanted to share some of the amazing comments I received after speaking at Northside United Methodist Church for Trinity Community Minstries. I am so thankful that God was able to use me to touch some hearts.
"Daphene, your message, so powerfully, genuinely and humorously told, so shows what we all are hungry to hear. God is real and powerful and capable to turn the darkness on its ear. And, that He really does mingle with us to accomplish His love, plan and glory. We still get the chance to say "yes" or "no" to God. I am so thankful that you said YES! and that you persevered to put your story into the words of your book and your talk. Who in the world would have known this was your first big talk??!!! You have inspired and touched me and I am thankful."
"Hello...Well. We did
it. Our Southern Breeze was well-attended, Spirit-led, and meaningful. Thank
you for every ounce of everything you did to make this special morning a reality.
How wonderful it feels to be used by the LORD."
"DJ, you rocked! You
changed lives! Your story resonated with everyone. You are on your way!"
"Wow!! Thanks to
everyone who assisted in the success of the morning. It was truly spirit-filled
and moving."

What a blessing to have had the opportunity to speak yesterday at the event held at Northside UMC. There were over 250 people there. Death of Denver Moore
I'm sure many of you already know that Denver Moore, co-author of "Same Kind of Different As Me", died in his sleep early Sunday morning. What an amazing difference he made since Deborah died November 3, 2000! He and Ron carried the torch for "Miss Debbie" and kept her dream for "God's People" alive all of these years. What a gift he was to those who met him and heard him speak. He will be missed but the angels in heaven are rejoicing! There has not been a decision made about his service. What an honor to have known him!

Interview last night...Our Southern Breeze!
It wasn't as difficult being interviewed last night on WATC TV/Atlanta Live as I thought it would be. What a blessing to have my story of healing and restoration shared with so many people at one time. If you missed it and would like to see it either on TV or computer, it will be aired on Monday from 7:00am to 9:00am. I was interviewed 2nd so you could probably catch it around 8:00am EST. Here is the link to watch it live on your computer. http://www.watc.tv/index.htm

Update on Trinity Community Ministries meeting at Northside Methodist Church today
The purpose of our meeting with Trinity Community Ministries (TCM) and Northside Methodist Church was to strategize and plan for an event on April 17th. The focus is to show people that until you are healed, you can’t be available to help others. The financial needs at TCM and others ministries in Atlanta are great. What an honor to have my book, “Our Southern Breeze” and my story of healing and restoration be a part of something so important for our city. Please check out TCM website at http://www.tcmatlanta.org/.

Trip to Austin Texas February 1st-4th
I wasn’t feeling as strong as I hoped to be I left for Austin for several events that were planned for me by my dear friends Sue Langston and Barbara Holloway.
On the 2nd I spoke with a wonderful group of women at a Bible study and had an opportunity to sign books. That afternoon I spoke at a church with about 30 women. Again I was honored to sign books.
The next day Barbara took me to Seton hospital where she had retired as a Chaplain. The meeting was with three associates she has previously worked with. The meeting to consider having me come as a speaker went great. I look forward to hearing the feedback from the gentlemen I met with.
On Saturday dear friends of Sue’s, the Bune’s, gave me a beautiful book signing at their home. Of course Sue helped with her magic of decorating for the event. That evening the Holloway’s hosted a dinner party with several of the dear friends I knew when I lived in Austin many years ago and again I was able to sign books.
By the time I headed home on Monday I was exhausted but happy at the wonderful feedback I am getting about the book.

Guess who missed the Dallas book launch?!
It’s been too long since I last updated my blog on Jan 11th. My first book launch was on Sat. and by the time we got to Dallas on Wednesday I couldn’t believe what was about to happen. Friday morning with terrible pains in my stomach and by 6:15p that evening I was having emergency surgery...my lower intestines had twisted. When I finally woke up Sat morning and realized I was going to miss one of the most important days of my life, I tried not to be sad. When it started at 2p all of a sudden I was at complete peace knowing that God was to be the STAR of the event. After seeing pictures and the video, I was thrilled that so many of my friends and even people I didn’t know came to celebrate by book.
